Roots of Hope: Growing Community Together

There’s a saying that “it takes a village,” and as we stand on this wild and wonderful land, dreaming of all that Harvesting Hope Acres will become, I can tell you that it’s true.

Over the past few weeks, something beautiful has started to happen. Neighbors have shown up with equipment and teams helping. Strangers have heard our story and said, “How can I help?” And every time someone steps onto this land, they’re not just offering help, they’re planting a seed of hope.

Because this mission? We can’t do it alone.

Right now, the land still looks a little wild. There are weeds to pull, fencing to put up, and projects that stretch further than our current to-do list (and trust me, it’s a long one!). But with every set of hands that helps clear a trail, every heart that believes in this vision, we get one step closer to making this place a reality for the individuals we’re building it for.

That’s why we’re calling our volunteers our Roots of Hope.

Roots do the unseen work. They anchor the plant. They gather strength and nourishment, holding everything steady when storms come. And right now, our volunteers are laying that essential groundwork so that one day, our farmers (individuals with disabilities who deserve every opportunity to thrive) can grow here in every sense of the word.

We are not yet ready to welcome our farmers, but we are preparing for them. Every cleared path, every hauled log, every weed pulled is part of the preparation. You can feel it in the air: something is being planted that will one day bloom in the most extraordinary ways.

Hope doesn’t grow overnight. It takes time. It takes effort. And most of all, it takes people who are willing to come alongside and believe in something they can’t yet see.

To every volunteer who has already shown up, and to those who are still finding their way here: you are the roots that are holding this dream steady.

You are building more than a farm, you are building a future. One where individuals with disabilities are not just included, but empowered. Where they can harvest purpose, connection, and confidence. And none of that happens without you.

From the bottom of my heart-thank you for being part of our beginning.

With dirt on our boots and hope in our hearts,
Allison Hill
